JB Music Therapy’s Coordinated Response to Ensure Safety and Care for Our Clients and Team
As we navigate the ongoing challenges of infectious diseases like COVID and the flu, our commitment to the safety and care of our clients and team remains paramount. While Alberta Health has adapted many health measures in response to increased vaccination rates and evolving transmissibility, we at JB Music Therapy continue to prioritize infection prevention, access to music therapy services, and the achievement of physical and emotional health goals for our clients and staff.
This document has been updated to reflect the latest guidelines from the Government of Canada, Alberta Health Services, and the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta, ensuring we maintain the best care and safety practices as we serve our clients across Alberta.
Updated Policies and Procedures as of January 2024:
- Symptomatic JBMT Staff (MTA) Protocol:
- Music Therapists will not work in-person if they are symptomatic.
- Online sessions may be provided if the therapist is well enough but cannot work in-person.
- If an MTA tests positive for COVID-19, they are required to stay home for 5 days or until symptoms have resolved.
- Outbreak Protocols:
- Response to an outbreak may vary by unit. During an outbreak of flu or COVID-19 , MTAs will comply with the organization or unit request that may include: receiving a flu vaccine at least 14 days prior to outbreak, use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) or to take antiviral medication (e.g., Tamiflu) in order to continue working.
- Routine Practices for In-Person Sessions:
- Client mask requirements will be determined by the organizations we serve.
- We will not refuse services to clients who cannot or will not wear a mask.
- During outbreaks, we will work with each organization to provide music therapy safely (e.g., with heightened PPE, on another unit, or online).
Our Commitment:
We remain dedicated to adapting our practices in alignment with the latest health guidelines to ensure the safety and care of our clients and team. This document will be updated as necessary to reflect any changes in guidelines or our policies.
